Dat wil zeggen dat ze niet meteen de echte toonhoogte zingen, maar er van onderen naar toe glijden. In de jazz wordt dit <em>scooping<\/em> genoemd (<em>scoop<\/em> is Engels voor <em>schep<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p>Sommige zangers maken grote <em>scoops<\/em>, andere zangers maken kleine <em>scoops<\/em>. Frank Sinatra bijvoorbeeld maakt grote <em>scoops<\/em> en Ella Fitzgerald maakt kleine <em>scoops<\/em>. Maar alle zangers maken gebruik van deze techniek. Zonder de <em>scoops<\/em> zou de jazz doods klinken.<\/p>\n<h4>Scoops in koren<\/h4>\n<p>Veel dirigenten zijn huiverig om <em>scoops<\/em> te verlangen van hun zangers, omdat ze verwachten dat het koor rommelig gaat klinken en gaat zakken. Toch hoef je daar als dirigent niet bang voor te zijn. Zangers zijn prima in staat om op dezelfde manier een <em>scoop<\/em> te maken. Zakken gebeurt niet als de zangers een goede voorstelling hebben van de toonsoort waar ze in zingen.<\/p>\n<h4>Notatie<\/h4>\n<p>Is het nodig om <em>scoops<\/em> te noteren? Ja en nee. Het maken van <em>scoops<\/em> hoort bij het idioom. Als de zangers thuis zijn in de lichte muziek maken ze de <em>scoops<\/em> vanzelf. Maar het kan natuurlijk dat je als arrangeur een <em>scoop<\/em> expliciet wilt aangeven.
