Bijvoorbeeld, in <q>Csus4<\/q> is de terts <i>e<\/i> omhoog gegaan naar <i>f<\/i>. In de klassieke harmonieleer hoort zo&#8217;n toon omlaag op te lossen naar de terts. En in veel lichte muziek zal dat eveneens gebeuren.<\/p>\n<p>De term <i>sus<\/i> is een afkorting voor <i>suspended<\/i>, wat <i>uitgesteld<\/i> betekent. De aanduiding <i>sus4<\/i> betekent dus <i>uitgestelde 4<\/i>. Oftewel, de sus4 is een verhoogde terts die naar beneden &#8216;wil&#8217; oplossen.<\/p>\n<p>Er is iets raars met deze benaming <i>sus4<\/i>. Het gaat namelijk niet om een uitgestelde kwart, maar om een uitgestelde terts. De naam <i>sus3<\/i> zou juister zijn, of eenvoudigweg <i>4<\/i>. Maar wat dat betreft is het met de taal van akkoordsymbolen net zoals in een gesproken taal. Soms ontstaan er rare gebruiken.<\/p>\n<p>Als er ooit een standaard komt voor het schrijven van akkoorden, zou ik de aanduiding <i>4<\/i> adviseren. Bijvoorbeeld, in <q>Csus4<\/q> is de terts <i>e<\/i> verhoogd naar <i>f<\/i>. In de klassieke harmonieleer hoort deze toon omlaag op te lossen naar de terts. En in jazz en pop zal dat ook ook vaak gebeuren.
